BVSc (Melb), Veterinarian
Dr Alex Hendren is a female Veterinarian.
Alex graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2013, following which she volunteered in Morocco assisting local veterinarians to treat all types of horses, donkeys and mules.
On return to Australia, Alex took up a position in Ballarat where she worked in a mixed practice that had special interests in equine stud medicine, neonatal foal medicine and racetrack practice. Wanting to develop her skills as an equine clinician further, she accepted a position at the U-Vet Equine Hospital (Werribee) where she was involved in a large number of surgical and intensive medical cases as well as advanced diagnostic imaging and lameness work ups.
During her time at U-Vet, she had the opportunity to complete specialty rotations in diagnostic ultrasound and sports medicine at the New Bolton Centre, Philadelphia, as well as training in anaesthesia and clinical pathology.
Since beginning at Avenel Equine Hospital in 2018, Alex’s role has encompassed looking after hospital and surgical patients as well as sales work, export work and reproduction. Alongside neonatal medicine and critical care, Alex’s particular interests extend to diagnostic imaging, ophthalmology and sports medicine. Alex is currently working towards a dual advanced practitioner status in the fields of equine internal medicine and equine diagnostic imaging through the University of Liverpool.
