BVSc (Qld), MANZCVSc (Small Animal Medicine, Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care), Veterinarian
Dr David Tabrett is a male Veterinarian.
David graduated from the University of Queensland in 1989, moved to Cessnock in 1990 and remained in the Newcastle region ever since.
David saw a need for patients and the pet owners to have a staffed overnight hospital that could provide urgent care at a moment’s notice on weekends and weeknights, a service that was missing in Newcastle and the Hunter. In 2004, he started the Newcastle Animal Emergency Centre. From 1 to 2 vet nurses, we have grown to a team of 85+ staff offering 24/7 ER service and adding referral services in Surgery, Dermatology, and Rehabilitation.
David has a passion for learning and believes we should always remain curious. So he completed Membership Examinations in Small Animal Medicine and Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. David believes in giving back to the profession and serves as the Treasurer of the Council of the College (ANZCVS) and secretary of the local branch of the Australian Veterinary Association. He is a current AVA NSW Executive Committee member and also volunteers as an admin for the Australian Veterinary Network Facebook page.
In addition to mentoring through the AVA New Graduate Mentor Program for the past six years, David was recognised as the 2017 Australian Small Animal Practitioner of the Year by the Australian Small Animal Veterinarians SIG of the AVA. David is proud to sit as a founding participant in Sustainable Veterinary Careers, an independent Not for Profit strategically addressing veterinary wellbeing and career satisfaction.
The learning hasn’t stopped and in recent years, David has completed certificate courses in Performance Measurement, Management of Cashflow and Profit & Value. David also sat examinations to graduate with the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and concurrently recently completed a Masters of Business Psychology with the University of Newcastle, and is currently studying a Masters in Business Law.
