BVMS (Murdoch), Veterinarian
Dr Julia Lee is a female Veterinarian.
I have been blessed to live my dream of being a small animal vet for almost 2 decades now! My love for animals, coupled with my love of medicine and problem solving pushed me to embark on a journey that not only brought my dream to reality, but also brought me to the land I now love and call home.
I studied vet science at Murdoch University, WA and came to Adelaide as a new graduate in 2003. I moved back to my country of birth for a few years, where I continued as a small animal vet, learning heaps more about tropical diseases and small pocket pets which were in abundance in the concrete jungle of Singapore. I helped set up a new practice and was able to help many families and their pets, many of whom had never been to the vet before.
I have had the privilege of meeting and helping lots of amazing animals and their families over the years in my capacity as a full time or part time vet, locum and more recently, as a mobile vet. What I love most about being a vet is the ability to 'speak' for the animal- to be able to diagnose physical, mental or behavioural issues that an animal may have been suffering with quietly, and then as we work closely with owners through real and practical solutions, to see the animal come back happy and wagging, or purring happily and pain-free is reward in itself. I also love witnessing the palpable joy and relief of a worried owner when their animal has overcome a health battle. And even in those moments of sadness and goodbyes, I treasure those precious moments where the unfailing bond between an animal and its human is revealed and it gives me hope that there is good in mankind.
I love helping out at pop-up clinics as a volunteer vet, and also helping out at different charity organisations in any capacity. I exercise my right brain through creative outlets like kids musicals and amateur costume designing. I also help my husband with the running of his private practice.
