Dr Liz Napier is a female Veterinarian.
Liz graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Originally from NSW, she moved to Adelaide to study and then returned to work in mixed general practice in the Hunter.
While working in mixed practice, Liz developed a passion for managing urgent and critical patients out of hours, which drove her to a career change as an Emergency Veterinarian. Liz has furthered her Emergency and Critical Care knowledge by completing her Membership Examinations in 2021 in ECC. In 2022, Liz is examining for the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists for ECC Memberships.
Liz has a keen interest in trauma and is contributing to joint research with the Universities of Sydney and Melbourne to publish in 2022 on the impacts of COVID lockdowns and trauma patient presentations. As an Emergency Veterinarian, Liz finds joy in reuniting owners with their critically sick or injured pets following their recovery and being able to provide owners with peace of mind during what can be a stressful time.
As a Veterinary Team Leader, a crucial part of Liz’s role is providing ongoing training and support for AREC veterinarians. This is provided through a structured development program to continue the self-development of our veterinarians. Liz also manages our internship program, which targets new or recent graduates as they transition into the profession.
Liz was also named Young Business Leader of the Year in 2020 at the Newcastle Business Awards.
The mental health of all veterinary staff is an essential aspect of our profession. Liz has provided ongoing support and training for our team and the wider veterinary community by becoming accredited as a Mental Health First Aid Instructor in 2020. This training has allowed her to provide Mental Health First Aid training to not only AREC staff but also to veterinary staff in the wider Hunter region.
