Dr Ram Naresh is a male Veterinarian.
Ram was born in a remote village in north India in an illiterate family that was making ends meet from a small agriculture land area with farm animals. Ram is the last and 6th child in the family. Due to poor schooling facilities everyone stayed illiterate in the family and used their thumbs to sign government papers. Ram was an exceptional child, being the first in the whole village to pass year 10 first time (in 1985). Ram studied using the light from an ancient style Kerosene lamp until year 12. In years 1 and 2 Ram used a small wooden plank and white chalk to write on it. Ram studied until year 8 whilst sitting on an empty fertiliser bag on the earth floor as there were no chairs for students. Perhaps because he come from an illiterate family, Ram used to teach his fellow classmates up until year 8. Ram studied under an electric globe in July 1987 to commence veterinary studies at India’s best agriculture university.
After graduating as a veterinary surgeon in 1992, Ram successfully competed for a junior research fellowship from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research to complete a research-based master’s degree in veterinary medicine. Ram worked as an assistant veterinary surgeon and veterinary officer in state governments. Ram’s curiosity towards science never stopped and Ram joined Rajiv Gandhi College of Veterinary Science as a lecturer in 1997 to teach clinical aspects of infectious diseases of animals to year 4 and 5 veterinary students. In January 2000, Ram joined the Indian Veterinary Research Institute under the umbrella of the Agricultural Research Services (ARS) at the national level. Ram got deeply engaged in clinical aspects of veterinary medicine and in teaching postgraduate students in the Division of Veterinary Medicine. Ram waspart of the national research team at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute from January 2000 to March 2005. Ram also served as treasurer of the Indian Society of Veterinary Medicine for a period of 2 years.
In 2004, Ram was looking for a change and came in contact with Prof. David Hampson at Murdoch University with the aim of pursuing a PhD on animal diarrhoea caused by an opportunist bacterium. Based on his teaching and research track record, in 2005 Ram was awarded an Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship by Murdoch University to commence a PhD at the School of Veterinary Sciences under the supervision of Prof. David Hampson. Ram migrated to Australia on 14th of March 2005 and completed a PhD in December 2009. Ram got registered with Veterinary Surgeons Board of Western Australia in 2012 after completing a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery degree from Murdoch Veterinary School.
Ram’s numerous research accomplishments have been published in peer reviewed international journals from the USA and the UK.
Ram’s childhood enthusiasm to treat sick animals stayed alive throughout the course of his research and teaching in universities and Ram used to spend 2-3 days per week at veterinary clinics in India. Ram went through a tough time and became a single father in 2010 with the much-needed help of Family Court of Western Australia. Ram’s daughter was only 6 years old in 2010. To take best care of his daughter Ram decided to operate as a mobile vet around Perth. Working as a mobile vet enabled Ram to be a typical Australian bloke. In few years Ram won the heart of 1000s of the pet owners around the Perth, which encouraged Ram to stay in Perth and call Australia home. Ram gave up his Indian citizenship to call Australia a new homeland. To serve pets more professionally with needed compassion, Ram opened a fabulous small animal hospital in Canning Vale in November 2018. Ram’s small animal clinic interests include but are not limited to the diagnosis and designing best treatments for ear and skin problems, intestinal diseases like pancreatitis, diarrhoea and vomiting, osteoarthritis, endocrine diseases like Cushing, diabetes, and hypothyroidism in dogs and cats. Ramalso has been treating birds and exotic pets like rabbits and guinea pig.
